L., Registration Date 14-01-2011 Organization O.O. Chuiko Institute of Surface Chemistry of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine popup.description2 The main objective of this project is to create a scientific basis for the synthesis of functionalized silsesquioxane polymers with well-developed porous structure belonging to a new generation of adsorbents. Such materials can be obtained by sol-gel method using branched trifunctional silanes as monomers along with metal ions of different nature as templating agents (so-called. "self assembly" method). The main idea of this method is the use of metal ions as templates (eg, as agents for the formation of pores). The first stage is the synthesis of coordination compounds using the aforementioned trifunctional silanes (ligands) in non-aqueous solvents. Later, the synthesized macrocomplexes participate in the reaction of hydrolytic polycondensation (sol-gel method), which leads to the formation of the gel and, in the future, to xerogel (the so-called controlled synthesis of xerogels). Then the incorporated metal ions are removed from the xerogel matrix by dilute acid solutions or solutions of simple chelating ligands. This process creates silsesquioxane polymers with high specific surface area due to the special cavities that contain on their surface functional groups with ligands of certain nature. It is assumed that such polymers will absorb only the metal ions used as templates.
