Research object: recreation by system search and investigetion of archaeological monuments of the cultural-historikal process and ethnic situation in the region of steppe Naddnipryanshina from medieval times up to earlymodern time. Research purpose: reconstruction of ethnic-historical processes which determined early origin of the Cossack settlements and extent of urban tradition in the region. Research was conducted with the use of general historical and special methods: spatial archaeology, gradational-typological method, stratigraphic method, interpretational method, method of aerial photographies, method of methal-search technologies etc. Theoretical and practical results lie in the proof of existence in Lower Prysamarie at the beginning of XVI century of powerful center, which formed the passionary part of Ukrainian ethnos - the Cossacks, to which the whole further history of region is related till the end of XVIII century. (Novobogorodickaya, Ust'-Samara, Novosergievskaya fortress, city Samar' - Bogorodichnoe - Yekaterinoslav-2). The novelty of the conclusions lies in proofs of the necessity of new dating time of Yekaterinoslav-Dniepropetrovsk foundation. The cultural-chronologic interpretation of the regional local monuments of the late middle age period is offered: as poly-ethnical Brodnicko-Tatar settlements at transportations on the rivers of Samara and Dnepr, and in future - as places of building of fortresses during Russian expansion at end of XVII century. Conclusions are integrated to the educational university courses for specialities 07.00.04- Archaeology and 03.03.03-History. Collections of artifacts entered the display of the Cabinet of archaeology of Dniepropetrovsk National University named after Oleg Honchar. The sphere of practical application lies in the possibility to apply housings and economic complexes, discovered during excavations of Samar' - Novobogorodickaya fortress, for the creation in future of the museum under open-sky - cultural and historical preserve "Samar' - Novobogorodickaya fortress", foreseen in the plan of the development of tourist infrastructure of Dniepropetrovsk.
