The purpose of the project is to increase efficiency of performance fault current limiter due to use HTS of 2-nd generation. Methods of research include computer modeling, the analysis of its work, tests with experimental imitating breadboard models. In project theoretical and constructive bases for creation high-speed superconducting fault current limiter with HTS windings of 2-nd generation are developed. As a result of performance of the project constructive - technical decisions high-temperature superconducting fault current limiter are analysed. According to the analysis of development superconducting fault current limiter, the most expedient concept of performance with superconducting HTS winding of 2-nd generation is chosen and approved. According to the chosen concept of high-temperature superconducting fault current limiter the mathematical model has been offered and the corresponding analysis on the computer with definition of distribution of a magnetic field in different operating conditions is carried out. The basic criteria of a choice of materials of the core and a wire from HTS 2-nd generation for a winding of the fault current limiter, necessary for its normal work have been determined. Methods of calculation of parameters of the fault current limiter are developed, parameters are determined and calculation of the fault current limiter for the electric system on a voltage 6 kV is carried out. For experimental confirmation of the theoretical analysis the imitating-experimental breadboard model of the fault current limiter has been developed and made. The carried out researches have confirmed the basic theoretical positions.
