It is shown that CdxZn1-xTe single crystals treated in hydrogen gas discharge passivate impurity-defect centers in the several micrometer-deep interface layer. The hydrogen passivation of electrically active and neutral centers takes place under the condition that the deformation potential of the passivated impurity is of the same sign with hydrogen. It is found that if the impurity and the hydrogen ion are of the same sign, then in case when the energy of their electrostatic interaction is larger than the energy of elastic interaction of these impurities, the passivation effect is absent which is testified by the experimental data of photoluminescence and electroconductivity measurements.
