Goal of research - the study of various aspects of surface inhomogeneity of sorbents. Methods of research and equipment - chromatography, calorimetry, structure-sorption analysis, spectroscopy, molecular statistics, quantum chemistry; microcalorimeter Calve, chromatograph "Tsvet", chromatograph Chrom-3, spectrophotometer UV-Vis, spectrophotometer Shimadzu, personal computer Athlon. Theoretical and practical results - the developed method of the estimation of surface inhomogeneity of sorbents is shown to be capable for the calculation of the distribution function of active centres over the energies for the adsorbents of various nature (monomineral, mixed, microporous); the energetics of basal and side surfaces of talc is studied and their principal physicochemical and thermodynamic characteristics are elucidated; it is shown that the sorbents prepared by the modification of natural alumosilicates with rigid structural cell (kaolinite and hydromica) from their aqueous solutions and dispersions by cationic surfactant possess inhomogeneously porous structure with the prevalence of mesopores, and the modification results in a significant decrease of the hydrophilicity of the studied minerals, while the modification of natural layer silicates leads to drastic increase of the adsorption value and the degree of the extraction of anionic surfactant in the low sorbent surface coverage range; the nechanism of the adsorption of anionic and non-ionic surfactants from their aqueous solutions on the layer silicates modified by cationic surfactants is studied. Novelty - for the first time ever, by the direct calorimetric method using the originally designed measuring cell the ion exchange heats of the Co2+, Cu2+, Mn2+ and Ni2+ cations on the clinoptilolite Na-form are determined, and the variation of the thermodynamic characteristics of the ion exchane is shown to be determined by that portion of the two-phase system clinoptilolite - electrolyte solution which is related to the solution phase, and by the analysis of the differential enthalpy plots the existence of the two types of energetically different exchange centres in the clinoptilolite structure is proved; an interesting effect of the withdrawal of organic cations from the structural positions of layer silicates and their interaction with the anionic surfactants in the subsurface layer is found. Efficiency of implementation - the proposed methods of study and the obtained results significantly increase the efficiency of the adsorption and ion exchange methods used for the study of energetic inhomogeneity of sorbents. Field of use - the fundamental results obtained in the study can be used in the scientific and technology-oriented studies in the related fields of colloid chemistry.
