Registration Date 26-01-2011 Organization Institute of Surface Chemistry of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine popup.description2 For the reporting period we analyzed scientific publications devoted to the modern methods of preparation and stabilization of silver nanoparticles (NPs) in the water solutions, the methods of NPs immobilization and stabilization on the silica surface, and the information concerning the bactericide activity of NPs against Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aurеus, Candida albicans. Consequently we revealed that modification of silica with the photosensitizer molecule and conversion of the photochemical process into heterogeneous system should be actual and for the production of convenient in use and energy-conserving photocatalyst, perspective for the reduction of metal ions in solutions. Silica modified with benzophenone molecules (SiO2-BP) accelerates the reaction of silver ions photoreduction and silica NPs formation with the increase of reaction rate. The mechanism of silver ions photoreduction in presence of SiO2-BP is explained by the formation ofBP-anion radicals as the strong reduction agents. The silver NPs formation passed through the nucleation and aggregation in solution following the absorption on the silica surface. Hereby, developed composite material is the catalysts and photosensitizer of silver ions photoreduction at the same time. To prevent the oxidation of silver NPs in colloids and on the silica surface when long-term being air-storage it is revealed that the use of binary stabilizer saved NPs very effective. Dried Ag/SiO2 is easy transported and does not loose their antibacterial properties after repeated slurrying in water. It is established that Ag/SiO2 composites have high antimicrobial activity against test-microorganizms: E. coli, S. aureus і C.albicans at extremely low content of silver during long-term observation what makes possible to recommend the use of obtained materials in range where the the antimicrobial action is necessary.
