The aim of the work is the systematic and comprehensive investigation of the present-day state of customs-tariff administration in Ukraine. The complex of strategic priorities and practical steps for its improvement is to be elaborated on that basis with the aim to increase the national economy competitiveness. In the work the scientific approaches to understanding the essence of the categories of customs affair and customs policy are generalized. A new theoretical and methodological approach to the study of the state customs system is suggested and its posi-tion in the general hierarchy of systems is substantiated. The structurisation of the Ukrainian customs system is realized. The detailed analysis of strong and weak sides of the national customs system based on official statistical data and calculation of analytical indexes is carried out. A spe-cial attention is paid to the evaluation of the fiscal and regulative potential of the customs system of Ukraine.
