It was done with the aim to improve the tribological properties of friction pairs. Metal surface layers after their modification as well as their hardness and wear resistance were studied by metallographic and X-ray methods. To provide minimal intensiveness of wear resistance in the process of sliding friction with and without lubrication and of fretting optimal technological modes of surface modification were worked out. The recommendations, how to harden the surface of titanium alloys and improve the tribological properties of friction pairs for medicine and engineering, are given.
