Aim of the work - creation of competitive varieties and F1 heterotic hybrids of water melon for growing in the Nothern zone of melon growing. Research methods - hybridization combined with different kinds of selection. In the result of breeding work by the method of synthetic breeding there has been created the water melon variety Sharm - cold resistant, early. Total yield is 30-35t/ha, marketability is 85-95%. It is relatively resistant to fusarial wilt. The tasting mark is 4,8 - 5,0. The chemical composition of fruits: dry soluble matter - 8,8 - 10,1%, general sugar - 7,4-8,0%, asccorbic aсid - 5,7 - 8,2 mg/100g.The fruit is roundish, green with dark green washed awaystripes. Flesh is purple, solid, juicy. Seeds are beeg, black. The variety is intended for fresh consumption and salting.
