Aim: to study the variability and adaptive regularities of valuable economic signs of bulb and shallot onion, creation of initial material for hybrids and varieties raising on this basis. Methods: field, laboratory, statistic, calculating. In the result of selection work, the new variety of bulb onion "Varyah" was ereated. The Variety is acute, middle-ripe. The vegetative season is 103-110 days. Crop capacity of the sort in the annual culture is up to 32 t/ha (more than standard by 18 %). Commodity bulb mass is 80-130 g. Good condition 90,7 %. It ripens well. The variety is of universal usage, is recommended for Steppe and Forest-steppe of Ukraine. A new variety, shallot "Olivia" is received. The variety is fast-ripening, vegetative season is 78 days. Crop capacity of bulbs is 12,5 t/ha, (more than standard by 111,8 %), crop capacity of green onion is 21,2 t/ha (more than standard by 31,6 %). The bulb mass is 21 g. Good condition during 8 months of storage is 89,4 %. The bulbs contain: dry matter - 17,6 %, general sugar - 12,1 %, vitamin C - 4,6 mg per 100 g. Green onion contains 5,1 % of general sugar, 34,5 mg per 100 g. "Olivia" has high adaptive ability. The variety is of universal use, is recommended for Steppe and Forest-steppe zones of Ukraine.
