Structure parameters of all atoms of Li2B4O7 crystals were determined at temperatures from 10 up to 290 K. The values of all coefficients of elastic stiffness and compliance matrix as well as values of piezooptic and photoelastic coefficients of a-BaB2O4, Li2B4O7, KLiB4O7, SrB4O7 and PbB4O7 crystals were experimentally determined. The possibility of essential increasing of acoustooptic diffraction effectiveness by the selection of most slowly wave for interaction was demonstrated. It was established that a-BaB2O4 crystal possess high value of coefficient of acoustooptic quality which is equal 127x10(-15) c3/kg (250 nm). The coefficient of acoustooptic quality for KLiB4O7 crystal for most slowly wave is equal (332+-120)ч10(-15) c3/kg (632,8 nm). All acoustooptic materials were systematized on the base of their velocities of acoustic waves and ferroelastic properties. The technology of synthesis of borate glasses - LiKB4O7, Li2B6O10 and LiCsB6O10 was developed. These glasses were synthesized and a number of their properties were studied: the transmission spectra; refractive index dispersion in the visible spectral range, which was extrapolated to the ultraviolet region by Zelmeyera correlation; piezooptic properties and velocity of ultrasonic waves; the values of elastic and photoelastical coefficients were calculated. It was established that the coefficient of acoustooptical quality of these glasses can take a high enough value. Also was found that these glasses have high radiation resistance to the powerful laser radiation. These inexpensive materials are effective media to control high power laser radiation in the shortwave region due to above mentioned properties.
