It is shown that the assessment should be based on "biological quality elements", which are biological systems at different levels of organisation. The method of an assessment of ecological status of aquatic ecosystems of the Danube Delta is developed on a basis of contemporary European approaches; the ecological status of all studied water bodies is defined as "good-moderate". The basic principles of ecological indication of a state of techno-ecosystems of cooling reservoirs of nuclear and thermal power plants, which consist in the necessity to integrate backward and forward linkages among all elements of the system, including technical systems, are established.
