Purpose: to work out methodical approach to practical creation of F1 hybrids and parental lines (sterile, fertile and sterility fixers) for conditions of the northern Forest steppe and Woodlands of Ukraine. In the result of conducted scientific and research work "Accelerated method of creation of sterile lines of carrot" (utility patent № 37570) was developed and patented. Based on this method the first domestic sterile line (A) was created: CHS - 3 / 98 - 1P (Certificate of Registration of the form of the gene pool of plants in Ukraine № 588) and sterility fixer line (B): CHF-3/98-Z (Certificate of registration of the form of the gene pool of plants in Ukraine № 587). These lines refer to Nantes cultivar and have 100% degree of sterility display and degree of sterility fixing, respectively. A fertile line of carrot Fakel was created which went through testing under conditions of the station and in 2010 was passed to the National Center of Genetic Resources of Plants of Ukraine. Fertile line of carrot Fakel is of a medium ripening period. Total root productivity is 44.9 t / ha, commodity crop - 39.1 t / ha, marketability 87% (in standard - 42.7 t / ha, 35.9 t / ha, 84%, respectively). Average weight of one marketable root is 250 g. Tasting rating is 4.8 points. Carotene content is 17.8 mg%, of dry matter - 18.3%. Keeping quality during winter storage is 92% at 87% in the standard. The created fertile carrot line Fakel is notable for a high content of general and specific combining ability . Applicability of the line: pollinators in creation of heterotic F1 hybrids of carrots, the male parent component. Areas of use: vegetable growing.
