The purpose – to improve a technique for development of an original initial breeding material and using it to develop an alfalfa variety with increased fodder and seed productivity, high winter hardiness and drought tolerance, resistant to diseases. Methods – hybridological analysis, statistical. Results: it was found that interclonal hybrids of alfalfa possess high level of heterosis and fodder productivity; positive correlation between an increase in fodder yield and duration of autumn vegetation has been found; varieties with reduced dormant period have been developed. Introduction: two varieties of alfalfa – Laska and Yuzhanka were transferred to the State Variety Trial.
