The methods of investigation: social (questioning of 459 patients), clinical, roentgenological, laboratorial, (biochemical, cytological, microbiological), functional (Doppler ultrasonic), experimental, statistic. The complex system of prophylaxis and treatment of periodontal diseases in smokers on the basis of study of the peculiarities of their clinical course and the study of the mechanisms of the influence of tobacco and tobacco smoke on periodontal tissues, was substantiated. As the result of the clinical and sociological (questioning) investigations the spread, structure and the peculiarities of the clinical course of gingivitis, general periodontitis and parodontosis in smokers depending on the age and the length of smoking habit, were determined. On the grounds of multifactor correlative analysis and the results of clinical examination of patients the negative influence of smoking on periodontal tissues was proved. The disorders in homeostasis of oral liquid of smokers were found; the indices of nonspecific resistance and the state of microcirculation in periodontal tissues were studied and estimated. According to the results of Doppler ultrasonic examination the disorders in blood supply in periodontal tissues of smokers were revealed. In the experiments with white rats the mechanisms of influence of tobacco and tobacco smoke on the periodontal tissues and oral mucous membrane were investigated. The influence of smoking on oral tissues was shown to be realized through liver function, which the indices of biopsy material and markers of its metabolism in blood serum point at. On the simulation of ligature-initiated periodontitis in rats the doze-depending effects of ozonetherapy upon periodontal tissues were studied. The expressed anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effect of ozone was determined. The method of ozonetherapy with ozonegenerator OzonyMed in complex treatment of patients with generalized periodontitis was worked at and offered for introduction.
