The object of the research is thermoelectric semiconductor converters of thermal energy into electricity. The objective is to determine the characteristics of physical processes in thermoelectric energy converters; to create new technologies and designs of high-performance converters of thermal energy into electricity. To achieve this objective the methods based on thermodynamics of irreversible processes applied to thermoelectric energy conversion, mathematical physics to determine temperature and thermal fields in thermoelectric environments, computer modeling and computer design of energy converters, experimental studies of the properties of thermoelectric materials and thermoelectric energy converters, are used. Optimum thermal and geometric parameters of single- and multistage thermoelectric converters for the conversion of waste heat of industrial origin, internal combustion engines, heat of combustion of fossil fuels, were determined by computer design methods. Maximum efficiency in such converters is 2-3 times higher is compared with thermoelectric converters produced by the best-known companies: "Hi-Z" (USA), "Biapos" (Russia). The designs are developed and experimental samples of one- and two-stage modules using heat sources, the hot temperature range of which is 250-300 ?C and 500-800 ?C, are produced. An improvement of thermoelectric modules efficiency is confirmed experimentally. The technology of sealing of cascade thermoelectric modules, which results in increase in reliability, resource and cyclical stability of energy converters, is developed.
