The role of fisheries in the agro-food sector of Ukraine's economy, performance and resource potential of the industry for the period 2000-2010 years is shown. Dynamics of the basic indicators reflecting activity of the domestic food-processing industry is investigated. Particular attention is paid to its components as Dairy, oil and fat, sugar, alcohol, meat processing, confectionary sub-sector. The role of the Agrarian Fund as the main state institutions for the promotion of equilibrium in the market of agricultural products is shown. Key areas of government agricultural policy for rural development are investigated. The role of private farms in providing rural employment is clarified. The role of cooperatives in social development in rural areas and the state's role in supporting their further development is shined. The necessity the development of supporting industries, rural tourism to increase rural employment and diversification of agricultural activities is revealed.
