Objectibes – To determine the patterns of formation of the range of changes of the aberration yield in blood lymphocytes of cancer patients during external gamma-irradiation and to assess the prognostic value of cytogenetic damage as clinically meaningful markers throughout the radiotherapy. Research methods and equipment – a conventional cytogenetic analysis of cultured human blood lymphocytes, common methods of statistical data treatment, light microscopes Biolam I, Axioskop, Micros MC 300X. Results – The mean rate of the linear increase of the radiation-induced aberration frequency in blood lymphocytes of brest cancer patients during radiotherapy ranges from 0,5 to 1,0 per 100 cells per 1 fraction (2 Gy) depending on the treatment scheme. Individual rate of aberration accumulation can change 1,5 – 5 fold in the course of treatment, and within one particular radiotherapy scheme it differed between patients with the variation coefficient of 44-69 %. The chemotherapy preset in the treatment programme caused an elevation of aberration and poliploid yields before radiotherapy. The grade of acute skin reactions showed no association with radiation specific and inspecific cytogenetic effects in breast cancer patients. Novelty – For the first time the radical and post-operative schemes of radiotherapy of breast cancer were compared for genotoxicity using the criterion of chromosomal aberration induction in patients’ blood lymphocyes. For the first time the magnitude of individual variability for the rate of cytogenetic damage accumulation at different steps of radiotherapy of brest cancer was quantified. Area of application – radiobiology, radiation therapy. Product Description popup.authors Артамонова Н.О. Вінніков В.А. Кондрашова О.І. Мазник Н.О. Масіч О.В. Свинаренко А.В.
