Purpose of the research: Optimization of radiation protection of patients at x-ray diagnostic procedures at medical institutions of Ukraine by means of determining national recommended levels of medical irradiation as a factor of reduction of risk of some malignant tumors. Methods of investigational and equipment: Dosimetry (ionization and theromoluminescent), sociological (questionnaires), methods of mathematical statistics, thermoluminescent automatic PCL-3, dosimetry complex TRIAD model 10100А, digital x-ray dosimeter ДРЦ-01. Results and their novelty: For the first time, world and Ukrainina normative base and methodological base of promotion radiation safety and control of the doses of the patients at diagnostic irradiation were systematized, the state of radiation equipment park and the structure of x-ray diagnostic procedures were assessed using canvass of x-ray diagnostic service in Ukraine. Radiation output was measured for 82 x-ray units in 8 regions of Ukraine. Recommended levels for chest x-ray and 9 most common x-ray diagnostic procedures were established by the results of measurement of input surface doses on the patients and fantoms (about 3500 measurenents) on 92 units in regions of Ukraine. Their distribution for each type of x-ray investigation was determined. Methodical recommendations as to the control of the doses of the aptients in conventional radiology were worked out. National recommended diagnostic levels were determied. Degree of introduction: Nine articles were published, 16 reports were made at Ukrainian and international seminars, conferences, congresses. 15 lectures wee delivered to interns of Department of Radiology and Radiation medicine of Kharkiv National medical university.
