The general distribution of the Antarctic grass formation, its edificator Deschampsіa antarctіca, as well as more rare species - Colobanthus quіtensіs in the region of Argentine Islands was studied. The data on environmental growth conditions, geobotanical and population-biological characteristics of the habitats of both species were summarized. ІSSR-primers for further analysis of genetic diversity of D. antarctіca were selected.
