For the composites based on carbon nanotubes the irreversible electrooptic response (memory effect) has been discovered and maximized. The observed irreversibility is established to be caused by stabilization of the LC alignment state realized in an electric field by the nanotube network, which is formed due to crushing of big CNT aggregates in electrohydrodynamic flows. Later on, it is shown that stabilization of LC-CNT composites with polymer network leads to stabilization of their structure and elimination of irreversibility of response to the electric field. Multiple conductivity mechanisms are established, which succeed each other with growing concentration of nanotubes. On example of diamond NPs it is shown that NPs can significantly reduce the concentration of ions in the LCs, resulting in their rectification. These results open new opportunities for improvement of LC devices.
