Among the lymphocytes in blood, population of tartrat-resistant acidic phosphate "hairy" cells was found (except 3 cases). It was stated a suppression of normal hematopoiesis, diffuse infiltration by lymphoid cells, mainly "hairy" (61.7%) and reticulin fibrosis in the bone marrow. The immunоphenotypic signs of HCL tumor substrate were shown. There are B-cell population (CD19+, CD20+, CD22+) with high expression of CD25, CD11c and CD103 markers in the absence of CD5 and CD23. In all HCL patients a very high level of residues, specific to O-glycosides (Thomsen-Fridenreichs antigen, PNA lectin), were identified on >60% cells. HCL spleen cells have a similar lectin phenotype with reduced lectin RCA binding. The standard cytogenetic method showed the association of HCL with a cytogenetic abnormality - del(17)(p13) in one case. In all examined HCL patients (6 persons) no lupus anticoagulant was found.
