The aim of work – to obtain new highly ornamental and resistant to pests and diseases varieties and forms of perennial ornamental flower plants for modernization and renewal the assortment of plants used in landscape gardening and industrial floriculture on the South of Ukraine. The methods of research – the general methods used in international practice on selection and worked out in the Department of Dendrology and Floriculture of NBG-NSC. The results and novelty – as a result of selection 27 new varieties of perennial ornamental flowers plants for growing in soil – climatic conditions of South of Ukraine have been bred. 10 Author’s Certificates, 10 Patents and 15 Certificates on registration of plants, in gene fund of Ukraine in NCGRRU have been received. The obtained varieties are highly ornamental and productive, ecologically resistant. Besides that the new variety of canna is characterized by self-pruning of the flowers, rose varieties – by long period of blossom, chrysanthemum varieties – by early blossom, hemerocallis – by resistance of flowers to fading, iris varieties – by late blossom, clematis varieties – by abundant and long blossom. The methods for carrying out the examination on peculiarity, similarity and stability (PSS) of Clematis L. varieties have been worked out. 15 new selectional varieties of perinnial ornamental flower plants from gene fund collections of NBG-NSC have received registration certificates, pass port handed to National Centre of Genetic Resources of Plants of Ukraine. The data about new varieties bred during last 5 years are included in “Catalogue of perspective varieties of perennial ornamental glower plants for conditions of South of Ukraine”.
