Information × Registration Number 0211U006702, 0109U006364 , R & D reports Title The new microwave and optical magnetoelectric effects in the ferrites, composite nanostructures and photonic crystals popup.stage_title Head Tarasenko Sergii Vadymovych, Registration Date 11-03-2011 Organization Donetsk Institute of Physics @ Engineering named after O.O.Galkin NAS of Ukraine popup.description2 Within the effective-medium method, we have analyzed the specific features of refraction and localization of volume TE and TM polaritons incident from outside on the surface of a semibounded thin-layer one dimensional (1-D) layer gyrotropic magnetic photonic crystal (MPC) "uniaxial antiferromagnetic -nonmagnetic dielectric" type in the crossed DC magnetic and electrical fields and "uniaxial ferromagnetic - nonmagnetic dielectric" at presence only a constant external electric field. The quadratic magneto-optical interaction, which can exist in magnetic media of arbitrary symmetry, has been chosen as a mechanism that provides a coupling between the spin subsystem of the ferromagnetic medium and the external electric field. Calculation has shown, that when the external electric field is orthogonal to a direction of an equilibrium moment of magnetic, a spin-wave dynamics of such effective medium correspond to bianisotropic medium. It in turn leads to formation of additional anomalies in the conditions of reflection and propagation electromagnetic wave in the one-dimensional gyrotropic magnetic photonic crystal in the presence of a constant external electric field. Among such anomalies it is necessary to observe the following: 1) the nonreciprocity of normal magnetic polaritons spectrum relative to change of a sign of a direction of wave propagation, even in unbounded MPC; 2) the essential dependence of propagation conditions of volume polaritons TE- or TM - type, from that what three (left or right) form the positive directions of a magnetic moment (or fields), wave vector and dc electric field; 3) the formation on the plane of external parametres "frequency - wave number" bands of photonic tunneling at the expense of hybridization evanescent electromagnetic waves TE - or TM - type, in magnetic and nonmagnetic mediums, which form the elemental period of MPC; 4) the possibility of existence of additional frequency intervals in which the regimes of negative and abnormal refraction realize for volume electromagnetic waves TE - or TM - the type, incident from the outside on gyrotropic 1D MPC.
