Objective of study: to define mine technological factors favourable for formation of man-caused methane accumulations. Methods of study: theoretical and laboratory methods to define physical (Vdaf, ash content, humidity) and structural (EPR methods, IR- Fourier spectroscopy) properties of coal; petrography (combined visualization with microscope MBI-11); geophysical methods to examine wells; mathematical methods to make calculations and to estimate results; experimentations. It is the first time when a physical model of formation of gas accumulations is proposed on the basis of re-distribution of phases - components of "water-gas" system - as a result of their interactions and mutual influence in a coal-and-rock massif. The authors designed a new formation model for conditions that contribute to gas-dynamic phenomena occurrence. On the basis of this model they worked out a skeleton chart for technology to predict a danger of the coal bursts with the help of summarized combined factors. In this article a new physical model of structural transformations of organic substance in black coal is proposed, and factors defining trends of coal to generate methane in certain thermobaric environment are analyzed. A man-caused gas-saturation was studied and estimated in undermining coal massif. The authors proposed a mine massif in A.F. Zasydko Mine as a pilot object for capturing man-caused methane; they estimated resources within borders of this area, and prepared recommendations for choosing sites for pilot wells. Obtained results can be a scientific basis for prognosing man-caused methane accumulations in Donbas mines.
