The goal of the work is establishment of the basic regularities of structure formation of epoxy-silica nanocomposites, obtained via the sol-gel method of silica filler formation and anhydride curing of epoxy to form an organic matrix. Methods used - scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, photocolorymetry, small-angle X-ray scattering, chemical analysis. The possibility of side reactions during the sol-gel synthesis of epoxy-silica nanocomposites cured with acid anhydride was established. It was shown that opening of epoxy ring with nitric acid (hydrolysis catalyst) can occure when silica is formed in the presence of epoxy resin. As ethanol is an essential component of the sol-gel process it leads to anhydride ring opening reaction. Taking into account possible negative consequences of the side reactions in hybrids' formation process the technique of synthesis of epoxy-silica nanocomposites cured with acid anhydrides via the sol-gel method was developed. This technique provides obtaining of optically transparent materials with filler content up to 10 mass%. It was shown that presence of the compatibilizer leads to formation of more stable sols. It was established that the higher the silica filler content in the composition the larger silica species form. It was shown that in "small additions range" of filler the spatial cluster of silica particles forms. It can improve the physico-mechanical properties of the composites.
