Information × Registration Number 0211U007718, 0110U007631 , R & D reports Title Relationship between pollen and plant tolerance to leand and fluoride compounds. popup.stage_title Head Peresypkina Tamara Mukutivna, Registration Date 08-09-2011 Organization Zaporozhye National University popup.description2 A high degree of correlation between the characteristics of pollen viability and annual growth of shoots: 0,74 for the conditions of pollution by fluorides and 0.57 for conditions of lead contamination it was established. Correlation between other characteristics of sporophyte (leaf area and coefficient of productivity) and pollen viability, defined both at the conditions in vivo, and in vitro (0,47-0,79), that indicate a significant correlation between the level of sporophyte tollerance and pollen viability, is also significant. A small and ambiguous degree of relationship between other characteristics of male gametophyte (abortion level, pollen tubes length) and the level of sporophyte resistance does not allow recommend themr as a test characteristics. Test-system for evaluation of physiological resistance of plants to environmental pollution by fluorides and lead compounds suggests the evaluation of the degree of preservation of pollen viability at the conditions of pollen germination on nutrient medium with 0.01% fluoride ammonium or nitrate lead. Biotest based on the pollen of arborial plants can be used for monitoring the level of resistance to fluoride or lead pollution or to predict the possible influence of these compounds on the sporophyte. Pollen viability under conditions in the model system at the level of 15-45% with regard to the control indicates the sensitivity of species to environmental pressure, and at the level of 80-100% shows certain environmental sustainability.
