Kochubey, Registration Date 01-06-2011 Organization Institute of Plant Physiology and Genetics NASU popup.description2 Effects of low light on the lateral distribution of the basic supramolecular pigment-protein complexes in chloroplast membranes during temperature stress injury were studied. Warming in the dark leads to significant changes in lateral redistribution of protein complexes in the membrane system of chloroplasts. In the marginal areas of grana and intergrana thylakoids content of complexes of photosystem 2 and the light-harvesting complex of PS 2 increased. Heating in the presence of light leads to a smaller (than heating in the dark) redistribution of the complexes. Heating in the dark increases the strength of stacking of grana thylakoids, but reduces its length. Heating in the presence of light, by contrast, reduces the force of stacking, as well as its length. Thus, we must assume that the presence of low-intensity light by heating the chloroplasts at a stressful temperature does not block the harmful effects of the stressor and leads to structural rearrangements, which are different from those caused by stress. It is possible that in this way stress tolerance is provided.
