Kochubey, Registration Date 01-06-2011 Organization Institute of Plant Physiology and Genetics NASU popup.description2 To detect the effect of short-term heating in the presence of high-intensity light on the state of the photosynthetic apparatus of higher plants we studied the changes in chloroplast ultrastructure and low temperature fluorescence spectra. Studies have shown that the effect of high intensity light results in compaction of stacking of granal thylakoids. At a moderate temperatures heating increases the area of this region, and at elevated temperature, on the contrary, the area of this region decreases. There were also changes in the state of pigment-protein complexes of photosystems 1 and 2. For the first of them heating at moderate temperature causes an increase in output long-wavelength fluorescence, while heating at elevated temperature causes a decrease in this parameter. The intensity of luminescence of PS 2 is reduced at both temperatures. Heating at both temperatures in the presence of high intensity light alters the lateral distribution of membrane light-harvesting chl a / b complex. A certain number of these complexes released from the central region granal thylakoid, migrates to the edge of their fields where joins the light-harvesting antenna of photosystem 1, which is located in this area.
