A thearetical of substantiation has been given on the necessity of studying contact (marginal) northwestern Black Sea (NWBS) biotopes. Studies were carried out according to new standard methods. The formation of biological diversity in the NWBS in conditions of eutrophication and biological pollution was described. Longterm data has been summarized and the study of laws governing and characteristics of formation of biota in marginal (contact) zones "river-sea", "coast-sea" and "seabed-water column". The influence of exotic species on the NWBS ecosystem was evaluated on the basis of ecological parameters. On the basis of five years of studies an assessment has been made of the present day state of communities in conditions of eutrophication and other kinds of anthropogenic influence.
