Goal: an experimental study of morphological changes of condensed films of pure metals (Sn, Bi) and binary layered film systems (Sn-Bi) during melting and crystallization of not continuous Bi, Sn films and Sn-Bi eutectic composition alloys of different thicknesses. To establish the physical laws of formation of liquid phase in the Sn-Bi eutectic binary layered film systems with the variation of the layers thickness in a wide range. Methods: single and two-layer film systems were prepared by the method of vacuum condensation. The melting point was determined by morphological differences in film systems that were at temperatures above and below the phase transition point. The morphology of the samples were studied by transmission (TEM) and scanning (SEM) electron microscopy. It was established that the spontaneous formation of island structures with unimodal size distribution as a result of melting and crystallization of the films occurs up to the film thickness that corresponds to the transition of island to continuous film morphology. The possibility of producing island structures on a substrate with the desired dimensions and density has been shown. The main results obtained for the first time, their relevance is determined by the necessity of understanding the physics of the processes in low-dimensional systems, and extensive use of such structures in modern technologies.
