The characteristics of sawdust as raw material for laboratory fast pyrolysis unit are investigated. The bulk density of dry sawdust and its dependence on the particle size are determined. Found that to achieve high yield of liquid product is necessary to provide an optimal combination of the basic operating conditions - process temperature, since the existence of gas-vapor mixture prior to its cooling and temperature of the mixture. Based on the analysis the technological scheme of laboratory unit is optimized and improved design of a number of its units (reactor, heating systems, raw material supply system).
