Purpose - development of methods that will reduce the excessive conservatism of the current Ukrainian regulations in the nuclear safety assessment systems of nuclear fuel dry storage by implementing the principle of "burnup credit". This method determines the use of modern approaches used in most developed countries in the calculation of critical storage systems for spent fuel with taking into account the value of fuel burnup. In first phase the analysis of national regulations was made on the requirements for nuclear safety in spent fuel; the conditions of correct conservative account of uneven distribution of burnup and definition of isotopic composition spent fuel depending on the depth of burnup for substantiation of nuclear safety were determined. The purpose of the second phase of work is development of procedure for determining the effective neutron multiplication factor depending on the isotopic composition of spent fuel, development of methodologies for nuclear safety evaluating of nuclear fuel dry storage systems using the principle of "burnup credit".
