The object of studies have been integrated optical and nonlinear-optical methods and tools for characterization of electronic processes, optical, fluorescent and nonlinear optical parameters of nanomaterials. Red shift and splitting of the spectral bands of surface plasmons in the absorption spectra of copper nanoparticles, imbedded into the matrix of silica oxide were found at irradiation intense femtosecond laser pulses with a power density of 1011-1012 W/cm2. These phenomena are interpreted as the result of changes in dielectric constant of silicon oxide matrix and its anisotropy, induced by optical Kerr effect in an electric field of light waves amplified in the vicinity of metal nanoparticles. The proposed interpretation of the results are confirmed by measurements in different polarizations. After end of action of the pumping pulse the plasmon shifts in the blue side. This blue shift is also polarization-dependent and can be attributed to the formation of silicon oxide in the plasma around the nanoparticles. The effect can be used for characterization of metallic particles introduced into the dielectric matrix.
