Theoretical and practical results - the interaction of water molecules with the modifying layer of cation-active substance on the kaolinite sirface is studied. It is shown that the modification of layer silicates with cationic surfactant and polycation within their ion exchange capacity results in the increase of the adsorption capacity of the minerals with respect to the organic anions. The active centres on which the sorption of organic anions on the organomodified layer silicates takes place. Novelty - the modified BET equation is proposed for the description of nanocluster adsorption. The selectivity of layer silicates modified by cationic surfactant with respect to the anionic compounds is explained. For the first time ever the ion exchange heat of the cetylpiridinium on the Na-form of vermiculite is determined experimentally. Efficiency of implementation - the obtained results enable the purposeful choice of the proper modifier which would enable to control the selectivity of modified minerals with respect to different organic anions.
