The return consists of 145 pages, 62 figures, 23 tables, 56 references. Objects of research are TiZrSiN, TiAlSiN, AlCrSiN, TiSiN, AlTiN, AlCrN, TiVZrNbHfN, TiZrAlVNbCrN, TiAlCrSiNbN, FeCoNiCuAlCrV, FeCoNiCuAlCrVN coatings. Experiments have been made to investigate the physico-mechanical characteristics, morphology, crystalline structure and elemental composition of nanocrystalline superhard coatings, depositing with vacuum-arc method. Crystalline structure and morphology of films have been researched with using of microindentation, electronic microscopy, X-ray diffractometry, X-ray spectroscopy. Advanced vacuum-arc plant "BULAT-6" have been used for deposition of nanocrystalline superhard (more than 40 GPa) coatings Mo-N and TiN-MoN. Hardness of coatings have been measured by microindentor "Micron-Gamma". Results of investigation of coating hardness, modulus of elasticity, crystalline structure, the morphology and the phase composition of coatings have been obtained in dependence of deposition conditions. The main results of research work have been obtained for the first time.
