The connection between the anisotropy and the structure of the impurity surrounding is established. The dependence of the axial anisotropy parameter of manganese impurities on the lattice parameters of zinc oxide films was explained. Theory of exchange interaction between transition metal ions of the iron group in wide-band semiconductors was developed. The exchange parameters between manganese impurities in semiconductors with the wurtzite structure were calculated. We have explained the existence of appreciable exchange anisotropy even in semiconductors with the ideal wurtzite structure (such as CdSe, CdS), where all inter-ion distances and bond angles are equal. On the base of the developed theories, we have proposed the theory of magnetoelectricity in manganese doped incipient ferroelectrics with perovskite structure.
