Paton Electric Welding Institute of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine popup.description2 Existing production of reactor vessels includes two technological options: forged-welded and pressed and welded. For the production of forged-welded shells , firstly, to cast ingots weighing 100-200 tons or more, and thus large diameter, accompanied by the formation of defects in ingots segregation origin, which can not be admitted in the production of blanks for the reactor vessel. Moreover, today in our country there is problem in getting heavy ingots. Secondly, these ingots to be manufactured for complex hollow billets ( draft, , expansion, rolling). This leads to irrational expenditure of metal in the cut, there is considerable labor intensive and, most importantly, requires a unique press-forging equipment. The production of pressed and welded shells to obtain large-thick rolled plates with thickness of 100-300 mm and that satisfy the quality requirements that impose material to the reactor vessel. In addition, the added operations (autogenous cutting billets, rolling and stamping, editing) that requires unique equipment. A serious drawback pressed and welded variant of vessel is the presence of two longitudinal welds that are not allowed in vessel of modern nuclear reactors. In general, both technological options (forged-welded and pressed and welded) are characterized by long production cycle, a large labor intensive, costly structure-doped metal and welding materials, and need for their realization of a unique press-forging, stamping and welding equipment. To date, the state ospecial electrometallurgy, primarily based on electroslag technology allowed to develop a new process of production of heavy cast hollow billets for modern vessel for energy and petrochemical reactors. Ready hollow ingot obtained by the new technology, without defects segregation origin, and its geometrical parameters correspond to the sizes of forged or pressed and welded blanks vessels.
