The purpose of the work executed is determination of reasons of soil deformation in the foundation of filler structures of the lime pits, as well as in the foundation of gantry rail tracks passing along the pits. Method of the research is engineering-geological survey. Basic tasks subjected to the research were determination of: physical properties of the soil; soil swelling parameters; chemistry of groundwater and aqueous extracts from the soil. Buildings of the lime department of HMP have been operated from the beginning of the 1970s. Both natural and technogenic factors have impact on the condition of the building structures. Impact of these factors causes destruction of the building structures, deformation of the soil in the foundation of the filler structures of the lime pits, as well as the gantry rail tracks. It determines responsibility and novelty of the work executed. The work foresaw implementation of the research in the scope sufficient for decision-making on renewal of the filler structures of the lime pits and arrangement of the foundation of the gantry rail tracks. Basic indexes obtained in the process of the research are description of engineering-geological conditions of the lime department area including physical properties of the soil, swelling parameters, chemistry of aqueous extracts from the soil and chemistry of the groundwater.
