Head Prysyazhnuyk Anatoliy, Доктор медичних наук Registration Date 03-02-2012 Organization Research Centre for Radiation Medicine popup.description2 Study subjects - cohort of clean-up workers of 1986-1987 yy., evacuees and residents of the most contaminated with radionuclide territories; population of the Ukraine; data bases of NCRU, SRU, Laboratory of Cancer Epidemiology of IRHE of SI "RCRM of AMS of Ukraine" and documents of central and regional interdepartmental commissions for link ascertainment between disease and the Chernobyl accident. Study aim - to analyze probable radiation induced features of cancer risk realization among sufferers following the Chernobyl catastrophe during 25-years after the accident. Study aim of the 2011 year phase - to define cancer incidence rate and dynamics (whole and separate forms) in clean-up workers of 1986-1987, evacuees and residents of the most contaminated with radionuclide territories during 1980-2009 as indices of absolute cancer risk excess probable associated with irradiation. Study methods - program-aim planning, systemic analysis, statistical and program-mathematical. Study essence. Cancer incidence study of main population groups exposed with Chornobyl factors displays peculiarities of cancer incidence rate and dynamics. All cancer incidence rate exceeds the national level only in clean-up workers of 1986-1987 (SIR = 108,5 %, 95 % ДІ: 106,2 -110,8). The rate is not different from national rate in recent years (2006 - 2009). There is a significant increase of thyroid cancer incidence (clean-up workers - in 5,2 times, evacuees - in 4,3 times, residents of the contaminated territories - in 1,5 times), possibly due to radioiodine irradiation of this organ. Breast cancer incidence increase is observed, especially in female clean-up workers of 1986-1987 (у 1994 -2009 рр. SIR=168,5%, 95 % ДІ: 148,4 - 188,6). The latent period of some specific sites of cancer associated with irradiation comes to the end. One may expect increase of their incidence rate. Taking this into account it is necessary to pay more attention for these specific sites of cancer. Presented data testify to the necessity of further epidemiologic monitoring of oncological pathology and analytical epidemiological study (cohort and case-control) to estimate low doses radiation risks. Application. 15 articles were published. Fields of use: establishments of Health Ministry of Ukraine, Emergency Situation Ministry, National Commission of Population Radiation Protection of Ukraine.
