Purpose: To study the main trends of development of cooperation between Russia, Ukraine and the European Union, to define the strategic vision and the reality of interaction in real and financial sector, to analyze the geopolitical trends that determine the interaction in the triangle of Russia - Ukraine - the European Union. Methods: analysis and synthesis, comparison, abstraction and generalization, induction and deduction, the unity of the historical and logical, statistical analysis. Results: The necessity of a fundamental change in approaches to the understanding of sovereignty and its justification on the basis of logical and historical methodology. The current trends of development of integration are characterized by their inconsistency; it is justified the priorities for cooperation between the EU and the regional and subregional groupings, covering the post-Soviet countries. It is proved the compatibility of long-term oriented energy strategies of Russia and the EU. There are the main factors of development of cooperation between Russia, Ukraine and the EU's financial and banking sector and the realities of the current state of cooperation. It is proved that the experience of a European system of financial supervision should be taken as a basis for the formation of a unified system of supervisory authorities in Ukraine and Russia. It is shown that due to the duality results of the modernization of agricultural production in Ukraine and Russia, it is necessary to use the experience of the European Union in the context of sustainable development policies in rural areas. Based on an analysis of civilizational features of the evolution of economic systems in Russia, Ukraine and the countries that make up the core of the European Union, and the study of institutional and civilizational foundations, ensuring cost-effectiveness and leadership in Western Europe, proved contradictory nature of political, economic and socio-cultural effects of the Euro- integration.
