The results of metallographic analysis and Vickers hardness test were compared with normal component magnetograms of the residual magnetic - field intensity taken after the samples magnetization by point pole method. The findings gave possibility to ascertain correlation between measured parameters and to use the residual intensity of magnetization for nondestructive estimation of physical and mechanical properties of the ferromagnetic material. The method may be put into practice to control carbon content in metal charge, hardness and depth of the cast iron surface layers after chilling, hardness and carbon form in cast iron after annealing.
