Their constituents are chemical compounds FeB, Fe2B, CrB and Cr2B. Diffusional layer-growth kinetics are close to parabolic and can alternatively be described by a system of two non-linear differential equations that yield good agreement with the experimental data. The dry abrasive wear resistance of the outer boride layer is around 45 times greater than that of the base for Fe-15 mass% Cr alloy, 300 times greater for Fe-30 mass% Cr alloy and 250 times greater for 15X25T steel. Abnormally high wear resistance of the boride layer on Fe-30 mass% Cr alloy and 15X25Tsteel is due to its network-platelet microstructure.
