Aim: creating a scientific basis for obtaining biologically stable water and wastewater treatment from toxic aromatic compounds in the application of biologically active carbon and study the properties of biofilm that forms on the BAC. Methods: the study of equilibrium and dynamic adsorption, microbiological and biochemical research. Main results: the equilibrium and dynamic adsorption of natural organic matter (fulvoacids (FA) and aromatic compounds on activated carbon (AC) is investigated. It is shown that the biofiltration efficiency is stipulated by content of biologically available carbon in the total organic carbon. It is found that biofiltration of FA can be controlled by rational use of aeration and ozonation processes of FA solutions. It is shown that the biodestruction efficiency of adsorbed aromatic compounds depends on Gibbs free energy changes. Modification of BAC by iron oxides increases the biofiltration efficienvy in 2-3 times. Active producers of microbial cells and biofilm matrix from BAC are isolated and studied. Application: drinking water treatment, preparation of process water for beverage production, wastewater treatment pharmaceutical, chemical and others of industries.
