Research purpose - to collect and analyse, and also enter in a scientific turn the most meaningful facts in relation to the collaboration of scientists of the Kharkiv university with the colleagues of other countries, to systematize materials that enable to present distribution and distribution of university idea in Eastern Europe, it is better to understand the place of the Ukrainian universities in the all-russian university system. In the anthology of "University idea in Russian empire of XVIII - beginnings of XX centures" are systematized materials, in which scientists, state and public figures, lay out understanding of processes of distribution, assertion and development of university idea in Eastern Europe. These reflections did not lose the actuality and now. An acquaintance with them allows it is not only better to understand an university as such but also specific of the Ukrainian universities XVIII - to beginning of XX centures, consequently to comprehend those university traditions what of us got in an inheritance. In the dictionary of "Foreign professors of the Russian universities (the second half of XYIII - thefirst third of XIX centure collect over 100 biographies of foreign scientists, which laid out in four universities, including to Kharkiv in a middle XVIII - to first third XIX st. Exactly this period is marked mass invitations of foreign professors (mainly from the German universities) on service to Russia, where the own system of higher education was engendered. Biography is written with bringing in of the new archived materials. A dictionary is given by the complex portrait of the invited scientists, examines them as the integral phenomenon in history of domestic universities, their payment shows in science.
