The research goal is to find factors resulting in derailment of the train cars under specified motion conditions as well as allowable speeds of trains including cars of various types with different loading. The methods used: mathematical and computer simulation of the dynamics of railway vehicles and numerical integration. The research results obtained: incidents on Ukraine's railways associated with derailments of cars or locomotives are analyzed; the effects of brake rigging on the dynamics of motion of a freight car are evaluated; calculated schemes of freight cars are analyzed and mathematical models of motion of some cars with various loads are improved; the motion safety of a freight train at the section with given ruptures of a longitudinal profile is estimated considering forces in jumpers; recommendations for forming and driving a non-uniform train are made.
