In vineyards of the south-eastern part of the Crimea, the larvae of the pest develop, in the majority of cases, in berries affected by black rot (induced by the phytopathogenic fungus Phoma reniformis Viala er Rav.). The injuriousness of the fungus-midge complex lies in the deterioration of the salable condition of table grapes, which leads to increased labor inputs for removal of affected berries. A system of chemical protection of grapevine against the complex of these two organisms (no foreign or domestic counterparts are available) has been developed envisaging one or two sprayings with fungicides to control black rot over the berry growth period. Effective control of Phoma reniformis Viala er Rav. on grapevines avoids the possibility that the larvae of Clinodiplosis cilicrus Kieffer will develop in the berries.
