New compounds with modulated structure were synthesized. The binary compound BaGe5 is the first representative of a new type of intermetallic clathrates. Peculiarities regarding the formation of the compound Y2Al3+xGe3 were found. The hydrogen sorption properties of SmCo4.5Al0.5 and HDDR properties of other alloys based on SmCo5 were studied. A technique of refinement of crystallographic parameters for compounds with structural deformations, which appear as peculiar diffraction patterns with modulations, was developed. New software for the refinement of incommensurately modulated structures was created, and the composite structure of the cuprate (Bi0.02Sr0.39Ca0.59)10Cu17O29 was determined. The method of electron density calculations from X-ray diffraction data based on a multipole model involving translational symmetry of the structure was further developed. Peculiarities of the real structures of new ternary gallides were analyzed. The structure types of inorganic compounds with trigonal and tetragonal symmetry were systematized.
