Research goal - development of the technological procedures for preparation of intumescent antipyrene systems and compounds along with the establishment of the mechanisms of their action in reducing the combustibility of polymer materials. Research techniques: elemental analysis, IR spectroscopy; fire-tube method and thermogravimetric analysis. Theoretical outcome of the research involves a progress in understanding the mechanisms of the chemical transformation in the intumescent systems within the temperature range from 100 to 400 oC. Scientific novelty: the mixtures with the formation of phosphamide bond between pentacoordinated phosphorus and amine were shown to be the most efficient; procedures for synthesis of intumescent compounds on the basis of pentaerythritol phosphate and amines were developed. The results are of practical significance for development of fire-safe thermostable polymers and fire-protective polymer coatings. Recommendations on the use of the intumescent systems for reducing the combustibility of polymer materials and their conversion into the group of hardly combustible compounds were worked out. The factors responsible for fire-protective efficiency of polymer compositions at high temperatures were established. Economic effect defined as a difference between the cost of imported intumescent materials and that of the analogues proposed here is also provided.
