Development of new solid-fuel hydrogen technologies for alternative power generation and chemical industry. popup.stage_title Head Dudnyk Oleksii, Registration Date 19-01-2012 Organization Coal Energy Technology Institute of National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine popup.description2 Object of research - the processes of carbonization (PC) of Ukrainian brown and bituminous coals and steam gasification of coke obtained as a result of carbonization. Objectives - creation of the installation with microchannel reactor (IMCR); determination of characteristics of Ukrainian coal carbonization and obtained coke steam gasification; development of a new concept of combined cycle plant (CCP). Methods of research - standard methods for solid fuel research and new methods for assessment of processes of Ukrainian coal PC using IMCR. PC of brown coal of Kirovohrad region (ash and volatile contents on a dry weight: Ad = 7.3%, Vd = 52.7%) without pre-impregnation (PI) and with PI with 3% water solution of H2O2 were investigated at IMCR. The yield of dry semicoke (SC) from dry coal without PI and after PI with H2O2 was 59.3 and 56.5% respectively. Effect of volatile release on the rate of heating of the sample without PI and after PI started from 259 °C and 252 °C. PC of high-ash brown coal (HBC) of Zhytomyr region (Ad = 32.5%, Vd = 40.9%) were studied at IMCR. The yield of dry SC from dry HBC was 77.2%. Effect of volatile release on the rate of heating of the sample started from 253 oC. The yield of products of carbonization of Zhytomyr region HBC and Lviv-Volyn bituminous coal (L-VBC, Ad = 41.9%, Vd = 22.7%) were determined at Fuel Cell Test Installation. The yield of coke from HBC was 62.5%, tar - 11.4%, gas - 16.8%, water of decomposition - 9.3%. The yield of coke from L-VBC was 79.7%, tar - 5.9%, gas - 9.3%, water of decomposition - 5.1%. The cokes of HBC and L-VBC were used to obtain the synthesis gas with high content of hydrogen using lime (CaO/C = 7.5 g/g) at the temperatures of 650-710 °C and 830-860 °C respectively. The dry synthesis gas containing hydrogen to 73.6 and 70.1 vol. % respectively was obtained during steam gasification of HBC and L-VBC cokes. A new principal circuit of a hybrid fuel cell CCP, which provides coal conversion in fluidized bed and the use of renewable energy to produce oxygen and hydrogen, is developed.
